Yes it is ... because KDE is already hear and it's good fast and stable.
Since the GTK Libs are not quite ready yet ( they work but are being 
rebuilt every day and don't compile some weeks ).
My estimate is that at the current rate it will take longer to bring
GNOME to KDEs current quality and quantity than it will take to create
a proper replacement for QT.
BTW:  FreeQT doesn't have to actually be used to be useful ( Like a 
nuclear weapon ), Just show people that it works and they won't bother
you about it.

Are you betting the survival of QT and the reputation of *linux* on the
inability of free software developers to produce a superior product ?
How many kernels have you seen that outperform Linux 2.0.33 ?
Only 2.1.x ... Why can't the same quality edge show up on FreeQT ?

The License is key.  GPL will help them ( hence the distribution pattern 
they use now ), but LGPL will kill them.
