Sometimes you want real time.  For instance, I'm helping a fellow I know
write a game for Linux(much like warcraft), and we have a structure that
defines the map.  The struct is modified often to easy coding and hasn't
stabilized yet, IRC would make a good medium for the discussion of what
should be in that struct.  IMHO, IRC should be used as little as possible.
