Cisco does something similar for their Cisco Academies - it is due to be
released as the Cisco Learning Engine. Under what conditions however, or
exactly when, I have no idea.

Hi.  I am now faced with having to reluctantly allow the Microsoft
Encarta Class Server as a solution for some of our customers.  
Obviously I would rather not.  Is there any one who has looked at 
this MS solution and found an open source/better alternative?

The school which is asking me to host their contents on a MS ECS
server has been chosen my MS as a beta site since November last 
year and they apparently are happy with the solution.  I will walk
away from this opportunity, but I am finding it difficult as it is
a sister school to my alma mater :-).
