Here's the installer source RPM and the autorun script for folks to look
at. I tinkered with it a bit to see what we had, and talked to the guys
who wrote it. It's a GLADE/GTK app that was fairly quickly put together
for the Linux application CD that Red Hat shipped for 7.1, and hasn't
been changed that much since then. It is run by the autorun script
(also attached) which is launched by magicdev when a CD is inserted into
the drive.
Issues that I see right now:
The app is directly linked to librpm, which means that if you upgrade
rpm you have to recompile the installer application. I discovered this
by trying to use it on a current 7.2 machine with rpm 4.0.4 (it was
expected 4.0.3). It also means that the app is fast and does dependency
checking and everything.
Will it run under KDE? Probably (as long as glade and gtk are present)
but I haven't tested it yet.
Will it work with things besides the accursed magicdev? What other
auto-cd packages are in use?
This package wasn't designed for what we're trying to do, but it might
be adequate as a start. I see another option as something
Python-tcl/tk, which would be a little more cross-platform. Anyone else
know of anything like this?
