I installed swarm on solaris last night. PITA! I couldn't use the
binary packages, as they turned out to be incompatible with some of
other libraries (namely tcl/tk, of course >:|) on my machine. I
recompiled nearly everything, installed it (went fairly smoothly, but
took forever). Today I downloaded the applications, tried them,
compiled them after a lot of effort, only to get totally totally
unfunctional executables. It may be a misconfiguration problem on my
side (probably is, my system is a mess right now). Maybe using linux
packages will work well. I don't have access to a linux machine at the
moment, when I get one, I'll give it another try. But my overall
impression is that swarm is just to complicated to be used at school
environment. A pity, it looks like a great system.
