I think teaching grade school kids HTML - and giving them space on a
server - is a great idea.  Letting kids publish and communicate with other
humans has value.  Teaching programming, on the other hand, is like
teaching them to weld - programming and welding are job skills,
communicating is a life-enhancing skill.

And by the way - teach them to touch type first, it's the single computer
skill I have that hasn't gone out of date over the years.
