Personally, I don't think Tcl is a very useful language to do anything more 
than little scriptlets - it suffers from the same scalability problems as Perl.

Python is worth considering; it can use Tk on all platforms (and wxWindows) 
and is way cleaner. I consider it a very good teaching language.
