I believe this wave of unsubscribers is caused by the increase in traffic om the
list. There have been a lot of mails about the (very useful) iso-project the
last weeks, which may annoy people. I think it's a shame we're loosing these
subscribers, so maybe it should be considered to decrease the amount of traffic,
or to create a seperate list or something. On the other hand, the messages about
the iso project are clearly labeled in the subject, and can easily be filtered.
I suspect you're partly right about the reason for the recent
unsubscriptions. But I think another part of it is a misperception on
people's parts about the nature of this mailing list. When we started
it over four years ago, it was the only place to talk about using Linux
and other open source/free resources in education. Since then, many
other websites/mailing lists/forums have been created to address this
area, often because the creators weren't aware of any existing places to
carry on such discussions. About a year ago we joined with as many of
these organizations as we could persuade to do so in creating
