I took a look at this website. Xtract is a command line tool to do
grep-like extracts from XML data. It looks very interesting in its
capabilities. Unfortunately, it's written in Haskell, a functional
language that isn't widespread in its use. Actually, Haskell sounds as
though it might be interesting in and of itself. Anyway, the source for
Xtract is only available as Haskell code (and binaries), although C
source is promised for the future. It might be useful as an XML
interface for retrieving data into some other program; when the C source
is available, that might be useful to see how Xtract works (assuming you
can't read Haskell source or don't want to learn Haskell).
