itoa();

ISTR it gives you a static buffer back. Solaris doesn't seem to have it
so I can't tell you from the manual page. Typical. Heap of poo.

sprintf(buffer,"%d",integer);

That'll do it. Allocate the buffer first. Make sure it's long enough.
