Does anyone know how long those copyrights run? Are they the same length as
written works (books, I think 50 yrs)? If all the sudden linux had games
with
comparable gfx/sound and SUPERIOR gameplay and fun, that would really
generate
some posative attention I'd think.

Copyrights are the same, regardless of the medium (paper or electronic). A
copyright is valid for 75 years or 50 years past the death of the author,
whichever is *longer*. Since the copyright is actually held by the publisher
for video games, the copyright is effectively infinite.
