both are actively maintained by different people, and I beleive hermes is used
in other libraries. It'd be nice if clanlib bundled hermes with it for release
versions, tho...

I d'no, I think there are plenty of competent code hackers who simply ignore
packages that don't build right without any work. If it doesn't work
immediatly, I flush it off my system and go back to what I was doing. If it
does work, but is lacking somewhere where I can help, I start looking into the
code. If I can understand it (IE, well documented or well structured, both
would be preferable), then I see about coding. I've contributed to a couple
projects (like Xracer when it was still usable on my machine), so I guess I do
happen to be the kind of person who might contribute :) The problem is there
are a LOT of projects out there that I'm interested in. Even if a project idea
or screenshots look good, if I can't get it working, then it probably needs
more help than I can offer it and is managed by someone who can't even get a
semi-functional version out the door (both may be completely false, but that's
what goes thru my mind when I try a new program) (I haven't gotten aqfh to
work, but I haven't gotten to the point where I could give it a serious try.
The first time I looked at it, I downloaded the program, then got pissed cuz it
needed some weird library, so I pitched it. not too awefully long ago, I had
plib installed, but decided my puny little modem wouldn't hold up thru
downloading everything needed. One of these days I'll get around to it... who
knows, mebbe I can get over my bias against C++ and offer a small patch or two
some day in the far far future :)
assuming that everyone capable of contributing will fight through a broken make
to get it up and running at first might be dismissing most of the people that
could help... :/ fixing steves busted dist is nowhere near as fun as seeing my
improvement... sorry *shrug* :)

The opinions expressed by me are not necessarily opinions. In all
probability, they are random rambling, and to be ignored. Failure to ignore
may result in severe boredom or confusion. Shake well before opening. Keep
Refrigerated.
