New benchmark article

	Hi,

I think that, as I "reconfigured" Salvador's benchmarking article for the
site, that I'd like to do a more thorough treatement of the subject as a
followup.

I am starting to compile benchmarks. I have downloaded the Haney kernals,
the OOPACK and Stepanov stes from KAI. I have requested a copy of the BYTE
benchmarks. Anyone know of any good, similar tests of compilers, preferably
useable across Windows and Linux platforms?

How about suggestions for cross-platform applications that are very
focused in nature? I was thinking of getting a ray-tracer, but know of none
that have source code available for both platforms.

Secondly, I have put a request in with Cygnus and KAI for help. Hopefully,
they will participate in this benchmakr, although the bottomline is that I
will download evaluation copies and test them anyways.

I f anyone has any tips or things to watch for, please tell me. I will be
writting up a methodology and putting it to the list for discussion. Thanks.
