I really, really would advise that you get your hands on a copy of Game
Programming Gems (ISBN 1-58450-049-2) That contains papers on:
- A generic handle-based resource manager
- Resource and memory management
- Frame-based memory allocation
These three will not answer your questions as such, but they may provide you
will ideas for alternative mechanisms for implementing your memory handling.
The book (Gems 1 and 2, 3 will be released soon) are not exactly cheap, but
IMO they are worth every penny.
