Thanks. I am sure that this will help me out a lot. 

I still feel silly though, but I had _no_ idea it would take so much
performance just for drawing a bunch of letters.

At some point, bits have to go into packets and routers need to make 
decisions on them. Changes at that level is what I want to hear about, not 
strategic company relationships.
