After I re-installed, I have had no problems.  I did reformat on the
latest install.

Don't think so.  It was a clean install with a format before. 
Computers...<shrugs>

I don't know.  I'm too much of a dilettante to know how to do this
easily - I end up with the sledgehammer approach of a new install if
it's too broke :-).
