One of the niceties of Indy is that it is safe to make XDM the default
boot. The fact is the user ever knows how to boot non X because it is
displayed prominently in the LILO screen (and how to cahnge the
default boot level). When you target people who are using a Linux box
without previous training and without any handholding then you must
assume they don't know where is the doc and what is the tool to read
it, or that disaster struck before they could learn enough. That
means you have to display the info.
Of course it would be cleaner to detect if the X config was
successful.
